El Fondo Nacional de Desarrollo Científico y Tecnológico, Fondecyt, es un programa público administrado por la Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo, ANID. Fue creado en 1981, inaugurando la modalidad de fondos concursables introducida por el Estado chileno como criterio para la asignación de recursos en las áreas de Educación Superior y Desarrollo Científico y Tecnológico.
El Programa cuenta con 4 instrumentos para financiar investigación básica y aplicada en todas las áreas del conocimiento.
Fondecyt Regular: Financia competitivamente iniciativas presentadas por investigadores con trayectoria demostrada, sin importar el área o procedencia institucional.
Iniciación en Investigación: El objetivo de este concurso es fomentar y fortalecer el desarrollo de la investigación científica y tecnológica de excelencia a través de la promoción de nuevos(as) investigadores, mediante el financiamiento de proyectos de investigación de 2 a 4 años de duración en todas las áreas del conocimiento.
Posdoctorado: Su objetivo es estimular la productividad e independencia científica de investigadores que hayan obtenido el grado de Doctor en los tres últimos años, permitiendo su dedicación exclusiva a la investigación.
Incentivo a la Cooperación Internacional: Su objetivo es reforzar los proyectos FONDECYT Regulares e Iniciación en investigación vigentes, a través de la participación en Chile de investigadores residentes en el extranjero.
